FROM THE CENTENNIAL OF NAVAL AVIATION STAFF
All,
The United States Navy is pleased to announce that 2011 marks the 100th Anniversary of Naval Aviation. We, the members of the Centennial of Naval Aviation Staff, are coordinating an exciting celebration with events throughout the year to educate the American public and honor a century of aviation achievements.
[Below this post] you will find a copy of the .pdf newsletter "A Centennial of Naval Aviation". This newsletter is the first in a series of Centennial newsletters to be published between now and the end of 2011. Please distribute as you see fit.
This important Anniversary marks 100 years of aircraft operations by the United States sea services. We are planning a number of events throughout calendar year 2011 to mark this achievement. As that schedule comes together, we will keep you updated.
Our staff is coordinating the planning and execution of the Centennial with a large number of regional representatives from the Navy, Marines, Coast Guard and NASA. In addition, we are liaising with the Centennial of Naval Aviation Foundation and a number of other organizations, museums, and individuals that are genuinely interested in helping us celebrate. We also look forward to your involvement.
We take great pleasure forwarding our first issue of the Centennial newsletter.
We're looking forward to a great Centennial year!
Very Respectfully,
Centennial of Naval Aviation Staff

HT: “Spike” Prendergast for the Update

First thing I would like to add is we in San Diego need to pull out the stops to let everyone in this community feel like they are important to this historic Centennial of Naval Aviation. I personally feel compelled to do what every I can. Naval Aviators active or retired should speak to every fraternal group, school, City Council, and any other group that have organized meetings, and get the word out about our pride in Naval Aviation. Thirty years after Naval Aviation's inception, it accounted for the greatest military in modern times, at the Battle of Midway. North Island is where it all began. My one suggestion that I think should be considered if at all possible, a performance by the Blue Angels at North Island that could be enjoyed by the entire waterfront of San Diego. I know this is a difficult idea to wrestle with, but for 40 minutes aviation should stand still to celebrate 100 years of San Diego being Naval Aviation Birth Place.
